1. Tell us about your organisation?

Stratton Street Methodist Church Community Centre has been at the heart of community activities in Park Village for over 50 years. 

During that time, we have opened our doors to thousands of local people, delivering essential services that meet the needs of residents from many different cultures, faiths and ethnicities.

The Centre, which is managed by Gail Reynolds, is hugely ambitious and believes there is tremendous potential to make an even bigger difference to the lives of individuals in the community.

Our programme is designed to tackle key issues around social isolation, loneliness, boredom, antisocial behaviour, unemployment, poverty, education and health & nutrition.

2. Who do you help?

In a nutshell, everyone. We operate over 20 different activities and there is support, classes and sessions for children, teenagers, adults, families and senior citizens.

3. What services do you offer?

There’s so much to choose from, we’re not sure where to start with an answer to this question.

Listening to the community is the first thing we do and then we reflect what we’ve heard in a host of different services and activities.

Our Stay and Play programme for pre-school children and parents/carers is extremely popular, whilst Tuesday lunch club gives people the chance to enjoy a 3-course meal (vegetarian option available) prepared by a local chef for just £4 each.

We also have a comprehensive Youth Activity Centre programme designed to engage with local youngsters by offering them a safe place to meet, have fun and discuss issues linked to their emotional and physical wellbeing.

Other activities on offer at Stratton Street Methodist Church Community Centre, include:

• Community Surf n Snack Stop, where you can surf  the internet for jobs and gain help with applications – all whilst enjoying a hearty breakfast
• Dance Classes for 7 to 15-year-olds 
• Park Village United FC for juniors, with training provided by an FA qualified coach
• Asian ladies friendship group 
• Foodbank/Foodshare project
• Community Garden Patch, where we have transformed a piece of wasteland into a functional allotment for local residents
• Enjoy a 3 course meal at our Tuesday Lunch-club for just £5 prepared by our Professional chef you can be sure of Great food & Great Company
• A variety of seasonal/social events are organised throughout the year including Holiday Activity programs for children during half terms.
• Our Community shop is open to the public Tuesday Wednesday & Friday 10.30am to 2.30 pm. 
  All prices are kept as close to wholesale costs as possible which can represent a significant saving to your weekly shop. A one off £5 shop secures your membership. Come and browse and take a look !

4. Give us an idea of some of your achievements?

The work we undertake is because of the passion we have to serve our community and not to seek accolades.

However, we were all delighted when Stratton Street Methodist Church Community Centre received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2020.

Two of our volunteers picked up the accolade at the Queen’s Garden Party in May 2022 and this high-profile title is a perfect acknowledgement of the many years of voluntary work part and present.
