PARK VILLAGE EDUCATION CENTRE

1. Tell us about your organisation?

Located on the border of Heath Town and Low Hill, the Park Village Education Centre serves more than 20,270 people in what is one of Wolverhampton’s most densely populated wards.

Our aim is to create a community hub to bring much-needed services into the area and to create opportunities for local people by raising skills, confidence and the employability of local individuals.

Following a recent consultation asking people about the support they require, we are now focused on improving and developing more community space, access to more multi-purpose facilities for young and old and in providing the very best ‘into work’ support.

2. Who do you help?

One of the strengths of Park Village Education Centre is the eclectic mix of people we support, from children and single parents to a myriad of religious groups and the elderly, who may be vulnerable or suffering from loneliness. 

This has been achieved by having excellent links with the local Police Community Support Officers, local councillors and nearby churches, temples and mosques.

3. What services do you offer?

• Community Cycling Club
• Employability support
• English for Speakers of Other Languages classes (ESOL)
• Events and conferences
• Family and community parties
• Keep-fit, Martial arts and sports activities
• Religious gatherings

We also give local people and businesses the chance to hire our community hall, offices and our extremely popular Astroturf pitch. 

4. Give us an idea of some of your achievements?

Our support, in one form or another, has touched thousands of local lives in helping to provide a better quality of life for individuals in Heath Town and Low Hill.

Some headline achievements, include:

• 400 people participated in HeadStart sport activities designed to improve their health and fitness
• Conferences and events on community, health and wellbeing and key topics, such as bullying, drugs and gangs, have attracted in excess of 1000 attendees
• 42 individuals given assistance to find work
• Over 100 people, mainly BME women, have been given support with their English language and employability

5. What makes WV10 special to you?

“Collaboration. The area has achieved so much more in recent years because we are now able to work together and have a central consortium in place that identifies and plays to our strengths when applying for funding. We are stronger, together.”
