1. Tell us about your organisation?

The Women & Families Resource Centre (WFRC) is a registered charity which engages with vulnerable or ‘hard-to-reach’ women, children, and their families.

We advocate, support and empowering individuals to overcome barriers and vulnerabilities, to improve their quality of life whilst striving to achieve their full potential.

This is achieved by our holistic approach to the situation, providing a one-stop approach that helps women and families become self-reliant, encouraging them to make their own choices and create their own solutions. 

2. Who do you help?

As it says on the tin, we support women and their families and, since we started over a decade ago, we have helped thousands of people to overcome their issues and enjoy a better standard of life.

Our services are free to any woman or child, regardless of race, culture or religion, who is facing similar barriers or problems. 

3. What services do you offer?

We provide packages of individualised, tailored support that help women to address emotional and practical issues that arise from crisis or challenges, such as mental ill health, domestic violence, social isolation, and other forms of disadvantage.

These are delivered through several projects, including:

Sisters with Heart provides a one-to-one befriending service, offering practical and emotional support for vulnerable, isolated and disadvantaged women.

This is done through home visits, mentoring and after care support to ensure problems do not reach crisis point.

Mental Health Support delivers one-to-one counselling and support, befriending services, ‘Every Woman’s Chat’ group, cooking and ‘dance yourself happy’ sessions.

Baby Bank supports new mothers and families to ensure every child has the essential items they need to thrive. This ranges from food and nappies, to wipes, clothes and toys.

There are experts at the centre, who can provide advice and guidance on ‘breaking the silence’ on domestic violence.

Immediate advice, guidance and signposting are all readily available and we now also provide culturally sensitive support to women and children from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities, who have experienced domestic abuse, honour-based violence, forced marriage or other harmful practices.

The Women & Families Resource Centre also offers a host of Youth Services. This starts with inclusive after school and holiday activities (for 5 to 19-year-olds) and then moves on to Girls Self Esteem & Leadership Workshops, Youth Mental Health Sessions and The Club A2S (Arise to Shine).

The latter offers recreational activities, including dancing, drama, debate, poetry, singing and access to lots of different sports.

A PERSONAL LETTER FROM THE EX PRIME MINISTER THERESA MAY to WFRC’s Executive Director (Who won a Points of Light Award)

In a personal letter to Karyne, Theresa May said:
